Talk show host Conan O'Brien has been seen in public for the first time since it was revealed he hosted a December holiday party attended by film director Rob Reiner and his son Nick, just hours before the couple were allegedly murdered by their son.
The Fateful Holiday Party
The star-studded bash took place at O'Brien's Los Angeles mansion on Friday, December 13. Among the guests were director Rob Reiner, 78, his wife Michele, 70, and their 32-year-old son, Nick. According to multiple sources, Nick Reiner was "behaving erratically" throughout the evening, which culminated in a heated and loud argument between him and his father.
The altercation grew so intense that at least one party guest suggested calling the police. "They got in an argument, the father and son. It got so bad and loud someone wanted to call the police to report it," an insider told the Daily Mail. However, Conan O'Brien, 62, reportedly intervened. O'Brien is said to have stated, "It's my house, my party, I'm not calling the police," and talked the concerned guest out of making the call.
A Haunting Revelation and Tragic Outcome
In a chilling detail, it has been reported that Rob Reiner confided in friends at the party about his fear of his son. "I'm petrified of him. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I'm afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me," Reiner allegedly said immediately after the argument.
Less than 24 hours later, in the early hours of Sunday, December 14, Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead from knife wounds at their Brentwood home. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been accused of the murders. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed there were no 911 calls from O'Brien's residence on the night of the party.
O'Brien's Public Appearance After the Tragedy
On Saturday, Conan O'Brien was photographed attending the SiriusXM Presents Before The Buzz event at Max & Helen's in Los Angeles. He appeared to be in good spirits, posing for pictures with fellow comedians and celebrities including Tig Notaro, Stephanie Allynne, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Alex Edelman.
The comedian was dressed casually in a brown jacket over a blue hoodie and denim jeans, accessorised with brown-tinted sunglasses. His public appearance comes amid the ongoing fallout from the tragic events linked to his holiday gathering. "Only the murderer is responsible," a source close to the situation stated. "But it must be gut-wrenching for Conan to learn that this is how things turned out. I'm sure that night is replaying for him over and over."
Representatives for Conan O'Brien did not respond to requests for comment on the reports concerning the party. The details of the evening were reportedly discussed at an impromptu memorial for the Reiners, attended by several Hollywood A-listers, where some were said to have been moved to tears upon hearing Rob Reiner's final, fearful words about his son.
