Rick Ross Marks Two Decades of Hip-Hop Dominance with New Projects
Rap legend Rick Ross is gearing up to commemorate a significant career milestone, two decades after first rising to iconic status. In 2006, Ross, now 50, unleashed his debut album, Port of Miami, a certified platinum record that launched a prolific journey from musician to mogul. Today, he is poised to release his third memoir, titled Renaissance of a Boss: Notes from a Creative Reawakening, a book delving into how he conquered a creative plateau.
From Correctional Officer to Hip-Hop Boss
Ross's story began in Mississippi, with his childhood spent in Carol City, Florida. Before fame, he worked as a correctional officer for two years, a fact he initially denied but now embraces as part of his growth. Reflecting on his struggles, Ross told The Daily Mail, "I appreciate a lot of the falls. They prepared you for the upside." He added, "If it was anything, I could have told a younger Rick Ross, 'you so much closer. Don't quit, homie.'"
The Promise Land: A Symbol of Success
Ross's success is epitomized by his palatial property in Georgia, known as The Promise Land, which features the largest residential pool in America. Purchased for $5.8 million at auction in 2014, the 109-room mansion was once owned by boxing icon Evander Holyfield before falling into foreclosure. Ross expanded the estate by adding 87 acres for an additional $1 million in 2020. This venue hosts legendary pool parties, including one where Ross nearly broke his leg attempting a jump called 'The Double Decker Slapper'. He recalled, "I almost broke my f**king leg... But it was fun," and announced a pool party for June 13 after a car show.
New Album and Creative Renaissance
Alongside the memoir, Ross will release his 12th studio album, Set In Stone. He views this project as a challenge to surpass his previous work, stating, "I challenged myself musically. That's what the renaissance is about—not getting to a point where you feel you at a ceiling." Ross emphasized that the album should challenge any body of work he has ever released, showcasing his evolution as an artist.
Memoir Launch and Intimate Celebrations
At a Spotify Audiobooks party held at The Peppermint Club in West Hollywood, Ross read an excerpt from his forthcoming memoir, engaged in a Q&A session, and performed for fans in an intimate setting. His memoir, Renaissance of a Boss: Notes from a Creative Reawakening, is set for release on May 12, 2026, exploring his journey past a creative rut after reaching peak success. Ross expressed excitement, saying, "I'm excited about this book. We really push the envelope... I feel it's gonna be a powerful year for Ricky Rozay."
With a portfolio spanning businesses and a record label, Rick Ross continues to solidify his legacy as a boss in the hip-hop world, celebrating 20 years of influence and innovation.
