Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, has become the target of widespread online mockery following the emergence of a music video showing her dancing alongside Egyptian actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan.
The Viral Video and Online Reaction
The resurfaced footage, originally filmed in September at the Trump National Golf Club, shows the 43-year-old attempting the singer's signature 'Tiger Dance' moves. Ramadan shared behind-the-scenes clips from the video shoot in Miami, which were met with an immediate and harsh response on social media.
Users on platform X were particularly scathing. One commenter wrote, 'I didn’t think there could be anything worse than Lara Trump singing… but I was wrong.' Another quipped, 'I seriously don’t understand why she isn’t embarrassed,' while a third simply stated, 'All I can say is "That is brutal."'
The criticism extended to her perceived lack of self-awareness, with one user posting, 'Zero self awareness! This is so cringe! And yet her people are saying OMG! you're so good. (While they laugh behind her back) I cannot! LOL.'
The 'Make Music Right' Initiative and Collaboration
This collaboration is part of the conservative music initiative Make Music Right, an effort reportedly backed by Donald Trump to promote 'traditional values'. The initiative's website states its vision is 'to build a movement that educates Americans on music’s role in shaping perspectives and to promote a music culture that upholds traditional values and elevates American society.'
The song, titled 'Sah-Sah', is scheduled for release on January 23. Ramadan previously posted photos from the set late last year, captioning them, 'Best workday with @laraleatrump and her daughter, the little princess Carolina Trump sweetest girl in the world.'
A History of Musical Missteps
This is not the first time Lara Trump's foray into music has attracted negative attention. In 2023, her cover of Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down' was widely ridiculed online, described by one critic as 'bad autotuned karaoke.' The late Tom Petty's estate had previously requested the Trump administration not use his music.
The cover was even mocked on Saturday Night Live, with co-host Colin Jost joking, 'Upon hearing it, Tom Petty died again.'
Undeterred, Trump later collaborated with rapper French Montana on the track 'No Days Off', which Rolling Stone magazine brutally described as 'a masterclass in insipid vocal fry pop slop.'
Her album, 'Just Lara', released in August of last year and featuring artists like Vanilla Ice and Ray J, also faced significant criticism. One listener commented, 'Love the Trumps but this sounds only slightly better than Friday by Rebecca Black,' while another exclaimed, 'Jesus f***ing Christ. What a terrible day to have ears.'
Despite the persistent backlash, Lara Trump continues to pursue her music career, though the latest dance video suggests her efforts are still struggling to find a receptive audience beyond her immediate political circle.
