Katherine Jenkins surprises St Pancras with Christmas show

Crowds gathered at London's St Pancras International station on Friday for a surprise performance by Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins.

The 46-year-old mezzo soprano performed a reimagined version of Belinda Carlisle's Heaven Is A Place On Earth in front of the station's 11-metre German-inspired Christmas pyramid tree. Dressed in a black turtleneck and red trousers, she was accompanied by a piano.

Marks & Spencer Christmas Advert Cameo

The performance follows Jenkins lending her voice to a rendition of the song in the recent James Norton and Lucy Punch Christmas advert for Marks & Spencer's.

In the festive campaign, Punch, as Santa Claus, encourages Norton to shave his beard, suggesting it might be aging him. "They say it takes years off," she says. After hesitating, he decides to go through with it.

He says: "I've never actually experienced Christmas. So I had an idea. I'd love to see what Christmas is really like out there. And now no one is going to recognise me."

Jenkins' Career Highlights

Ditching the Santa suit for a black leather jacket and red scarf, Norton struts around London before stepping into a Christmas concert with a special cameo from Jenkins, who performed the track with a school choir wearing a sparkly black dress. The advert ends with Norton arriving at an M&S shop before returning to the North Pole.

Jenkins, previously named the biggest selling classical artist of the century by Classic FM, has released 14 number one albums since signing to Universal Classics at the age of 22. She has sung at many national occasions, including the late Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, and has performed before the Pope.
