The late Dowager Countess Bathurst, Gloria, has disinherited her stepson, the current Earl Bathurst, leaving her £33.2 million fortune to two interior decorators, according to newly released probate documents.
Gloria, who died last Christmas at age 90, bequeathed almost her entire estate equally to Grant White, a Fulham-based interior designer, and New Yorker Geoffrey Bradfield. The decision has shocked the estate, as the Countess had lived at Cirencester Park until her husband's death in 2011.
Earl Bathurst, Allen, said he and his stepmother 'did not see eye to eye' despite attempted reconciliations. He inherited the title and house upon his father's death, but Gloria had previously brought a High Court action against him in 2017 over family portraiture and antiques worth an estimated £13 million.
The Countess renounced her US citizenship in 2008 to avoid American inheritance tax. She was married to the late Earl, Henry, from 1978 until his death. Her husband had once described Prince William as 'some young yob in a beat-up car' after a road incident.
