Country Star Brantley Gilbert Explains Turning Point USA Halftime Show Performance
Country music artist Brantley Gilbert has publicly addressed his decision to perform at Turning Point USA's All-American Halftime Show, an event scheduled to air concurrently with the NFL's Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, February 8, 2026. The alternative show, organized by the right-wing political group Turning Point USA, is positioned as a protest against the NFL's official halftime acts.
Political Backdrop and Event Details
Turning Point USA, founded by the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, announced the All-American Halftime Show in October 2025. It will feature performances by Gilbert alongside fellow artists Kid Rock, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. The event has sparked significant controversy due to its overt political framing, with critics labeling its "all-American" branding as exclusionary, especially as Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny headlines the official Super Bowl halftime show.
The announcement followed conservative backlash against Bad Bunny's selection, with some Republican figures criticizing him as a "massive Donald Trump hater" and an "anti-ICE activist." Despite this, the NFL has stood by Bad Bunny and even added rock band Green Day—known critics of Trump—to its Super Bowl opening ceremony for a special 60th anniversary tribute.
Gilbert's Personal Statement
In a statement shared with Fox News, Gilbert explained his rationale for participating. "I'm a songwriter who grew up, and still lives in Jackson County, Georgia, whose goal in the music business was to sell out the local theater a few miles from my house and somehow make my living writing songs," he said. "I'm a recovering addict with the history of all the bad choices that come with it. I'm not proud of those choices, but I am proud of the choice I've made to live in another direction."
Gilbert emphasized his Christian faith and love for America, stating, "I share my story through my music in hopes that it may help and inspire others in their darkest hour. I'm a Christian, and I love our country despite its flaws. I've dedicated part of my life to the men and women who fight for it and the families of those who gave their life for it." He also highlighted his role as a husband and father to three children: Barrett, eight, Braylen, six, and Abram, one.
Motivations and Broader Context
The singer noted that 2026 marks America's 250th anniversary and pointed out that it has been over two decades since a country artist was invited to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. "I respect that some people may see this differently, but I'm not playing this show to be divisive," Gilbert asserted. "I was offered this opportunity and imagined my kids watching their daddy perform at halftime during the biggest game in American football. Everything I do, I do for them."
He concluded with a call for unity: "The way I treat people isn't conditional based on what our differences may be. I believe 'united we stand, divided we fall,' and my prayer for our country is that we stand united."
Broadcast and Streaming Information
While the exact location of the All-American Halftime Show remains undisclosed, it will be broadcast on four conservative networks: Charge!, DailyWire+, TBN, and Real America's Voice. Additionally, the event will be streamed on Turning Point USA's social media platforms, including YouTube, X, and Rumble, ensuring wide accessibility for its target audience.
This development underscores the ongoing cultural and political divisions in the United States, with entertainment events becoming arenas for broader ideological debates. Gilbert's participation highlights how artists navigate these tensions while staying true to personal values and family priorities.
