Ed Sheeran was seen wandering through New York City surrounded by fans during the filming of a new Netflix special. The hour-long single-take documentary, directed by Philip Barantini, follows the singer as he moves through Manhattan ahead of an evening concert.
Sheeran, described as 'the Candide of the music business', is shown smiling benignly, strumming his guitar and pausing for selfies and high-fives. The film captures him completing a late-afternoon soundcheck before embarking on a series of encounters with fans and friends.
During the shoot, Sheeran played a song at a friend's marriage proposal, staged an impromptu gig on a tourist bus, performed at a rooftop birthday party and jammed at a pub. He also boarded a subway train to play for passengers before returning to the theatre for his concert.
The special, titled 'One Shot With Ed Sheeran', showcases Barantini's signature single-take technique, with the camera passed smoothly between handheld operators and drones. The production team remained largely invisible, though some moments of spontaneity appeared staged, including a chance encounter with singer Camila Cabello in her car.
