Cody Johnson headlined Manchester's AO Arena on his Live '26 tour, delivering a 90-minute set that mixed honky tonk energy with heartfelt storytelling. The Texas-born singer-songwriter was supported by Parker McCollum, who played for well over 40 minutes before Johnson took the stage just after 9pm.
The crowd arrived in the midst of two storms, but the wet weather did not dampen the atmosphere. Cowboy hats, cowboy boots, trucker caps and checked shirts filled the arena, with fans embracing the country community spirit.
A star-studded support and a confident headline set
Parker McCollum, also from Texas, warmed up the audience with hits including Pretty Heart, Burn It Down and To Be Loved By You. Wearing a red trucker hat, he was described as a big name in his own right who could have sold out a venue like the Manchester Academy or O2 Ritz.
Johnson, in his signature shirt, jeans, big buckle and Stetson, radiated confidence from the moment he stepped into the spotlight. His band, many of whom have been with him for well over 10 years, accompanied him as he sang, danced and played guitar.
Storytelling and surprises on stage
Johnson mixed up the tempo throughout the show, with tracks like The Painter and Human, written for his wife, standing out as examples of his storytelling. An onscreen guest appearance from Carrie Underwood for I'm Gonna Love You was a welcome surprise for fans.
The show closed with crowd favourite Til You Can't, during which one fan proposed. The crowd's response suggested she said yes.
A strong start to the C2C countdown
After a brief pause, Johnson returned for a two-song encore including Travelin' Soldier. The performance was seen as a fitting start to the countdown to the C2C: Country to Country Festival, which will take over Manchester's AO Arena for three days next March.
