Billie Eilish has spoken candidly about her mental health struggles and the concept behind her upcoming debut album in a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1.
The 17-year-old singer revealed that her album is inspired by her experiences with sleep paralysis, night terrors, and lucid dreams. 'The album is basically what happens when you fall asleep,' she explained, adding that she has suffered from severe night terrors and sleep paralysis five times.
Eilish also discussed her ongoing battle with depression, describing it as something that has 'controlled everything in my life.' She noted that she has always been a 'melancholy person' and hopes her openness about mental health will inspire her fans.
The singer touched on her close working relationship with her brother and collaborator Finneas, saying they understand each other without needing to explain. 'He sees me as I am instead of going into a session with a total stranger,' she said.
Eilish's recent single 'Bury a Friend' and her track 'When the Party's Over' have garnered significant attention, with the latter being covered by Bring Me the Horizon.
