Australian pop sensations Bardot are poised to make a dramatic return to the stage at the inaugural Sydney Mighty Hoopla Festival on February 21, a full two decades after the group originally disbanded. This highly anticipated one-off reunion marks a significant moment for fans of the noughties hitmakers, who first burst onto the music scene in the year 2000.
A Reunion with a Notable Absence
In a development that is sure to disappoint many long-time followers, Sophie Monk will not be participating in the reunion with her former bandmates. The original lineup featured five members, but only four—Belinda Chapple, Sally Polihronas, Katie Underwood, and Tiffani Wood—will take to the stage for this special 25th-anniversary celebration event in Sydney's iconic Bondi area.
Festival Line-Up and LGBTQ+ Friendly Event
The Mighty Hoopla Festival, making its debut in Sydney, boasts an impressive roster of headline acts. Alongside Bardot, the LGBTQ+ friendly event will feature international stars like Kesha and Becky Hill, as well as Australia's own Delta Goodrem. The festival's organisers confirmed Bardot's inclusion in the line-up on Wednesday, sending waves of excitement through the fan community.
Clever Social Media Teasers Build Anticipation
Organisers masterfully stoked fan enthusiasm through a series of playful social media posts. An initial teaser featured a short animated clip with a pink flip-top phone and a text message reading 'OMG Call me ASAP', cleverly concluded with a bottle-shaped image—a clear nod to Bardot's biggest smash hit, Poison, from 2000.
A subsequent clip released on Wednesday showed Belinda, Sally, Katie, and Tiffani individually receiving phone calls from the Mighty Hoopla Festival. In the cheeky promotional video, Belinda ponders, 'I wonder what the other girls are doing these days,' while Katie adds, 'Don't you ever miss performing, it's been 25 years?' The clip culminates with all four performers appearing together on screen, directly telling fans they will see them at the festival.
Fan Reaction and Bardot's Response
Bardot themselves were quick to share their excitement on the festival's official Instagram post. The fan reaction was overwhelmingly positive and emotional. One enthusiast exclaimed, 'THIS IS THE REUNION I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR,' while another added, 'Pinch me besties.' A third fan poignantly stated, 'The world is healing.'
Sophie Monk's Stance on a Reunion
The absence of Sophie Monk comes as little surprise to those familiar with her previous comments. Back in 2021, the 46-year-old Love Island Australia host explicitly shot down rumours of a potential Bardot reunion. 'I think we've all grown up very differently,' she said at the time. 'It's a bit like school, when you leave high school and you all kind of go your separate ways. So yeah, I don't know. I think we've just all kind of moved on.'
Monk's music career began in 1999 when she competed on the reality television show Popstars. She subsequently helped form Bardot, which was active from 2000 until 2002, before embarking on a solo career with Warner Music. She departed from the label just two years later, charting a different path from her former bandmates.
The upcoming Mighty Hoopla Festival performance represents a monumental moment for the remaining four members of Bardot and their dedicated fanbase, promising a nostalgic trip back to the peak of their early-2000s fame.
