Apple Martin, the 21-year-old daughter of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow, made her live singing debut on Friday night at Cannery Hall in Nashville. Performing with student band Jade Street, she sang the track 'Satellite' alongside musicians Eli Meyuhas and Zachery Zwelling.
Fan footage shared on TikTok showed Apple on stage as her father, Chris Martin, watched from the crowd. The Coldplay singer, 48, was seen proudly supporting his daughter, with reports from The Vanderbilt Hustler noting he made clear he was there to support Apple and did not want the night to focus on him.
The song, a collaboration between Apple and her fellow Vanderbilt University students, is set for release on October 28, according to the band's Instagram page. While many praised her first public performance, online reaction was divided, with some social media users criticising her vocals as 'off-key' while others defended her confidence and promise.
Apple already holds songwriting credits on her father's Coldplay tracks 'Let Somebody Go' and 'feelslikeimfallinginlove.' Her mother, Gwyneth Paltrow, has also performed music in films such as Duets and Country Strong.
In a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph, Apple addressed her approach to fame, stating: 'I constantly remind myself how grateful I am to have these opportunities. I know this is not a normal way to grow up by any means. But my parents did a really good job of instilling in me that I shouldn't be entitled to anything. I have to work.'
Apple is currently studying law, history and society at Vanderbilt University. She told Interview magazine that hanging out with friends and watching reality TV helps her stay grounded. With her debut performance behind her and a new single on the way, Apple Martin appears ready to carve her own path in music.
