CD Projekt RED has announced the first gameplay reveal for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past expansion will take place during Gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026. The news was shared by Geoff Keighley on social media.
Expansion Details
Songs of the Past is set between the events of The Witcher 3 and the upcoming Witcher 4, which will feature Ciri as the main protagonist. The expansion returns to Geralt and is being developed by Fools Theory and CD Projekt RED, with Fools Theory composed of veterans from the original Witcher 3 development team. The same team is also working on a remake of the first Witcher game, which has been paused to focus on this expansion.
Size and Release
According to CD Projekt RED, Songs of the Past will be similar in size to previous expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The expansion was initially planned for 2026 but was pushed internally to 2027. CEO Michał Nowakowski stated the delay was 'to achieve the best possible result from the consumer standpoint,' adding that 'in the end, frankly speaking, is the only ultimate thing that really matters.'
No concrete release date has been set, but the expansion is expected to launch in the first half of 2027. It will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with no PS4 or Xbox One version.
