Television reviewer Luke Eccleston has urged Netflix subscribers to binge-watch the streaming platform's new seven-part limited series, East of Eden, which has drawn praise for its performances and cinematography.
Addressing his 497,000 TikTok followers, Eccleston said: "If you're looking for a limited series to go and binge-watch on Netflix right now, stop and watch this one. The only warning I have is that once you start it, you're going to wanna watch every single episode."
A contemporary take on a classic novel
The series offers a contemporary interpretation of John Steinbeck's renowned novel, adapted by Zoe Kazan. It explores the complex, multi-generational drama surrounding the Trask family in California's Salinas Valley.
Florence Pugh plays the manipulative and layered antiheroine, Cathy Ames, offering the narrative a considerably more female-centred perspective than previous adaptations. She is joined by Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist as the warring Trask brothers, Adam and Charles.
Viewers hooked from the start
Outlining the storyline, Eccleston explained: "It follows these two brothers, who are one day in their house. They hear something outside their door and when they open it, they find a girl covered in blood, battered and bruised."
The narrative becomes increasingly "crazier" as the episodes progress, which is one of the reasons audiences are so captivated. Eccleston continued: "As this story spans over decades, the past catches up with them. It creates for this intense, fantastically shot show that you absolutely have to go and see."
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series boasts a particularly strong approval rating of 87%-89%, with critics highlighting the acting and stunning cinematography.
Top of the platform
The series launched in October 2026 and has proved enormously popular, ascending straight to the top position on the platform. Eccleston's video has attracted over 900 likes, and numerous commenters agree that East of Eden is worth a go.
Discussing how addictive the show is, one viewer commented: "I started this afternoon and had to force myself to stop after 3 episodes." Another confessed: "Watched it all in one go." While a third said: "Watched in a marathon night. Loved it."
