August 2026 is defying the usual summer lull for big games with some blockbuster releases across all platforms. Gamers on PS5, Xbox and Nintendo consoles are certainly being treated this month. From epic remasters of beloved RPGs to expansions for huge-name franchises, there’s something for everyone coming out in the next few weeks. Switch 2 owners are getting a pretty impressive month with some ports finally making their way to Nintendo, but that doesn’t mean Xbox and PS5 users are missing out. In fact, some of the month’s heavyweight releases are exclusive to those consoles.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

PS5 - August 6. A new Marvel fighter that’s often regarded as the spiritual successor to Marvel v Capcom, Tokon is developed by Dragon Ball FighterZ studio Arc System Works. This 4v4 tag brawler is a dream come true for comic book lovers. The visual style is certainly unique, reminiscent of comic splashes coming to life with help from its cinematic combos. Assemble dream teams across five different factions to mix up Captain America with Doctor Doom when it lands later this week.

Beast of Reincarnation

PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC - August 4. Pokemon creators Game Freak have taken a dark turn with Beast of Reincarnation, offering up an action RPG that breaks away from the cute fun and instead delivers a gritty adventure. Set in a post-apocalyptic Japan, players take on the role of Emma and her stray dog companion, Koo, as they fight off corrupted beasts and rogue machines. The combat draws heavy inspiration from the likes of Sekiro, offering fast-paced gameplay and striking visuals. And if you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you get it on day one.

This fresh spin on Star Wars gaming is ideal for strategy fans. Set during the iconic Clone Wars era, Zero Company is brought to life by Respawn and Bit Reactor. Offering roughly 40 hours of gameplay, it’ll place gamers in the shoes of Hawks, a former Republic officer now recruited to defeat an emerging threat to all across the galaxy.

Pokemon Pokopia Expansion Pass - Stage 1

Switch 2 - August 5. Nintendo’s cosy sandbox hit gets its first major update this week, giving players the chance to expand their habitat underwater. The new Bubbly Basin area allows gamers to build aquatic homes and recruit new water-type Pokemon. There’ll be fresh season events, crafting recipes and online multiplayer visiting features, too. Given all that’s arriving to Switch 2 this month, it could be the ultimate palette cleanser between the heavy hitting RPGs.

Mafia: The Old Country - Man of Honor

PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC - August 14. It’s time to go back to Mafia’s roots - this story expansion returns to early 1900s Sicily.
