Tina O'Brien Hints at Corrie Future After Sarah Platt Twist

Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has hinted at her future on the long-running ITV soap following a major twist that saw her character Sarah Platt revealed as the killer of Theo Silverton. The actress, who has played Sarah for 26 years since the character turned 12, shared a sun-soaked view from MediaCity, near the show's set, on social media, seemingly confirming she is still filming.

Sarah Platt's Killer Reveal

In Monday's episode (June 22), it was confirmed that Sarah was the one who struck Theo on the head, causing him to fall from scaffolding outside his flat. Theo's body was found by Betsy Swain on the night of her mother Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor in April. The murder ended Theo's 13-month reign of physical and mental abuse over his partner, Todd Grimshaw.

Theo had been confirmed as one of five potential victims in a flashforward episode in February, alongside Carl Webster, Jodie Ramsey, Megan Walsh, and Maggie Driscoll. A murder investigation followed, with suspects including Todd, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass, and Danielle Silverton.

Tina O'Brien on the Twist

Speaking about learning of Sarah's role as the murderer, O'Brien told Inside Soap's Soap Scoop podcast: "There was a lot of debate in the green room as soon as we were told there was going to be a murderer. A lot of people were playing Cluedo. First off, some of the cast were told they were involved in the storyline, but they weren't the murderer. So by the time it got to me to go for my meeting, I was a bit like, I think it's me!"

She added: "But I genuinely didn't worry, at the end of the day, this job is incredible, but to be an actor is not necessarily a job for life. So, I just was really excited to be given the honour of being the murderer, and then hopefully, however it plays out, I’ll enjoy Sarah's arc."

Aftermath and Future

O'Brien also revealed details about the aftermath of the truth coming out. "She's handled the aftermath so badly that she now thinks, 'I have to put up and shut up!'" the soap star said. "But whether she can long term, I'd be surprised." She added: "I'm not allowed to talk about it but the actual aftermath for me has been the best couple of months of filming as well. So, I'm really looking forward for that to all come out on screen soon."

O'Brien's social media post from MediaCity suggests she remains on set, hinting that Sarah's story is far from over.
