Netflix has released The Whisper Man, a horror adaptation of Alex North's 2019 best-selling novel, set 10 years after an infamous serial killer was caught. Children are going missing again, and the detective who caught the killer a decade ago is called out of retirement when his own grandson vanishes.
Robert De Niro leads as Detective Pete Willis
Robert De Niro stars as Detective Pete Willis, who retired after catching the Whisper Man but must return to the case when his grandson is taken. De Niro is known for films including The Godfather II, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Heat, Joker, Cape Fear and Casino.
The story follows Willis as he faces the original killer, who remains behind bars, and searches for his grandchild.
Adam Scott and Michelle Monaghan join the cast
Adam Scott plays Tom Kennedy, a writer and widower estranged from his father for years, who calls on him when his son goes missing. Scott is known for Parks and Recreation and the Apple TV drama Severance, which fans are waiting to return.
Michelle Monaghan portrays Detective Amanda Beck, who leads the Whisper Man case and is determined to catch the culprit. Monaghan has appeared in Made of Honor, Patriots Day, Gone Baby Gone, Mission Impossible III and True Detective.
Michael Keaton and Hamish Linklater in key roles
Hamish Linklater plays Norman Collins, described as a “crime junkie with a house full of murderous artifacts,” making him a prime suspect. Linklater has appeared in Legion, Midnight Mass, Gen V and American Horror Story.
Michael Keaton stars as Frank Carter, the original psychotic killer in a high-security prison. Pete is the only person he will speak to after a “chilling proposition” comes his way. Keaton is known for the Batman franchise, Beetlejuice, Birdman and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Other cast members include Will Brill as Sergeant John Dyson, Owen Teague as Frank Carter Jr and Acston Luca Porto as Jake Kennedy. The Whisper Man is available to watch on Netflix.
