The Traitors board game under £1 with Argos and TopCashback

The official The Traitors board game can be bought for less than £1 by combining an Argos discount code with a TopCashback sign-up bonus, just in time for Christmas.

Celebrity Traitors returns to BBC1 on October 1. Fans of the show can experience the tension at home without going through the BBC application process for the regular series. The official board game captures the tense and savage fun of the TV hit, offering 1.5 to three hours of gameplay.

How the deal works

Originally priced at £24 on Argos, shoppers can reduce the cost to £16.80 using the discount code TOYS30. When purchasing via cashback website TopCashback, the total can drop further. Creating a free TopCashback account unlocks a £15 new-member sign-up bonus. Stacking that bonus with the discount code and the Argos cashback brings the total cost to £0.96 after cashback is applied.

For existing Argos shoppers who open a new TopCashback account, the price is marginally higher at £1.73 after cashback. At checkout, the reduced price with the discount code TOYS30 is payable (£16.80). Within seven working days, the bonus and cashback are credited to TopCashback accounts for withdrawal.

Game details and reviews

Designed for four to six players aged 12 and up, the game unfolds over four rounds split into four phases: Mission, Banishment, Armoury, and Murder. One player secretly acts as the Traitor, while the rest are Faithfuls, and one player takes on the role of host Claudia Winkleman. Faithfuls team up during missions to build a shared prize fund of gold coins before raiding the armoury for rewards and protective shields. A Banishment phase follows, with players hurling accusations, then the Murder phase. In the final round, the two players with the most gold coins face off for the prize fund, with their true identities remaining a mystery.

Senior shopping writer Eve Rowlands reviewed the game and called it "the best party game ever played." She said: "I say this as a self-proclaimed board game fanatic who has played the game, and - I don't say this lightly - the Official The Traitors board game is genuinely on par with Articulate as one of the single best party games ever played." She added: "After taking it on a weekend away recently with friends, I can confirm that it delivers all the gripping drama and round-table tension of the hit BBC show - and it can also get shockingly savage."

Alternative game options

For larger gatherings, Herd Mentality (£18.99, Amazon) asks players to guess what everyone else will write. The host asks a question, players scribble answers in secret, and those in the majority earn points. The odd one out gets the Pink Cow, which freezes their score until someone else takes it.

The Chameleon (£19.99) suits three to eight players and captures the paranoid, deceitful vibe of The Traitors. One secret player has no clue what the topic is and must bluff to avoid being caught. Players receive a card, the dealer reveals a Topic Card, and players give subtle clues. The Chameleon tries to blend in, leading to a high-tension interrogation before a final vote.

Fans have praised The Traitors board game. One review said: "Very enjoyable, It is quite surprising how a television programme adapts so well from the screen and gives hours of entertainment." Another said: "I bought this game about a month ago, fantastic game for all the family whatever the age. It brings to life all the drama of the television programme into the home." A third remarked: "Bought as a gift and we love it! Great game for anyone who likes The Traitors, or just anyone who loves a bit of murder mystery."

Some players found the instructions complex, and one noted that certain challenges require a scavenger hunt. They said: "Incredibly complex, not a table game either as it involves running round the house collecting things."
