The Order Crime Thriller Airs on BBC Two Tonight

The crime thriller The Order, starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult, will air on BBC Two tonight at 10pm, following its debut on Amazon Prime Video in February 2025.

Plot and True Story

In the film, Law plays FBI agent Terry Husk, who investigates a series of violent robberies linked to a white supremacist group led by Hoult's character, Bob Mathews. The group plots to overthrow the federal government. While some parts are fictionalised, the story is based on real events.

Historical Basis

The movie draws on the 1989 non-fiction book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhard. The real Order was a neo-Nazi group active between 1983 and 1984, funding itself through armed robberies and declaring war on the US government. It also drew inspiration from The Turner Diaries, a 1978 novel by William Luther Pierce, which the group used as a blueprint for revolution.

Real-Life Agents and Crimes

Law's character is fictional but based on several real agents, including Wayne Manis, the actual FBI lead on the case. The film depicts the group's robbery of an armored car, taking $3.6 million in cash, as well as attacks on adult book stores and a cinema. The murder of Jewish radio host Alan Berg, played by Marc Maron, led to the group's downfall.

Viewer Reception

Viewers have praised the film for its "gripping" plots and performances, with one writing: "Good acting. Compelling story." Another said: "What a thrilling and captivating true story about a manhunt for a cult." The film holds an 89 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes' Popcornmeter.

The Order airs on BBC Two tonight at 10pm and is also available to stream on Prime Video.
