Netflix's sports drama The Damned United has entered the streamer's Top 10 most-watched list since arriving at the weekend, and continues to climb the charts. Originally released in 2009 and based on David Peace's 2006 novel, the film tells the turbulent story of Brian Clough and his disastrous 44-day reign as manager of Leeds United in 1974.
Brian Clough and Peter Taylor
Michael Sheen plays Brian Clough, the outspoken manager who criticised his predecessor Don Revie before being appointed by the Leeds board. Sheen is known for The Queen, Good Omens, Masters of Sex, The Twilight Saga and Frost/Nixon.
Timothy Spall portrays Peter Taylor, Clough's loyal assistant manager and best friend. Spall is remembered for Mr Turner, The King's Speech and the Harry Potter franchise, where he played Peter Pettigrew.
Leeds United's captain and striker
Stephen Graham, the Emmy Award-winning actor known for Adolescence, This is England, A Thousand Blows and Boardwalk Empire, plays Billy Bremner, Leeds United's captain and Clough's main antagonist.
Martin Compston, famed for his role as DI Steve Arnott in Line of Duty, plays striker John O'Hare. Before his acting career, Compston was a professional footballer in Scotland and made appearances for Greenock Morton.
Don Revie and Sam Longson
Colm Meaney plays Don Revie, the formidable Leeds manager who leaves to manage England, creating the vacancy Clough fills. Meaney stars in Remarkably Bright Creatures, In the Land of Saints and Sinners and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Jim Broadbent plays Sam Longson, chairman of Derby County while Clough managed the club. Broadbent is recognised for the Harry Potter and Bridget Jones franchises, Game of Thrones and Only Fools and Horses. The Damned United is available to watch on Netflix.
