Fans of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are getting a new reason to return to the three-year-old game next month as Insomniac Games is set to push out a surprise update. This will be the first update the game has received in over a year, with most Spidey fans assuming the game had been put to rest ahead of the studio's next project, Wolverine.
The latest update is to tie in with the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, which is set to hit theatres on July 31. In celebration of the movie's release, Insomniac is adding Tom Holland's new suit to Spider-Man 2 on both PS5 and PC.
New Suit Details and Release Date
The studio announced the update on X, saying: "Get a fresh start in Marvel's Spider-Man 2! Swing across skylines in Peter Parker's 'Fresh Start' suit inspired by the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, in theatres July 31!"
Gamers will be able to get their hands on the new suit from July 28, a few days before the movie hits theatres. Best of all, the update will be arriving completely free of charge for all players – no need to shell out for any microtransactions.
The new suit features a pretty drastic design difference compared to both the PS5 suit and Tom Holland's previous outfits in his last three movies. The texture in particular appears to be more woven, perhaps hinting to the more homemade feel now that Holland's Peter Parker is no longer supported by Tony Stark or The Avengers after the whole world forgot about him.
Fan Reactions and Upcoming Wolverine Game
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 fans appear excited to get their hands on a new suit, jumping at any excuse for another playthrough of the 2023 superhero game. "Oh I'm loading up a new playthrough with that suit 1000%," reads one X reply. Another adds: "REPLAY BEFORE WOLVERINE INCOMINGGG."
Insomniac is gearing up to release its next big superhero title later this year with Wolverine. The upcoming game will star the X-Men member in a solo adventure, ditching Spider-Man's open world for a more linear, story focused experience. That's set to launch on September 15, giving players a good month and a half to fit in another playthrough of Spider-Man 2 with the new Brand New Day suit should they wish. Sadly, while Insomniac confirmed that both its Wolverine and Spider-Man games take place in the same universe, there won't be any crossovers between the characters in the new title.
