A new PlayStation presentation is reportedly close, according to a reliable insider, with expectations building for a September State Of Play.
Insider hints at imminent announcement
NateTheHate, known for a strong track record in gaming leaks, responded to a question on X about whether a State Of Play would occur in September. 'Working to confirm the date; but a State Of Play in September is looking incredibly likely and soon,' they wrote.
Sony has held a State Of Play presentation in September every year since 2022, though the exact date has varied between the start and end of the month. Since then, an untested source on Reddit claimed the presentation would take place on Thursday, September 3, which would require an announcement on Tuesday or Wednesday this week, but that leaker has not yet proven reliable.
Potential reveals and upcoming titles
As for content, Sony has Marvel's Wolverine lined up for September 15, 2026. Additionally, God Of War Laufey launches in February next year, and Until Dawn 2 is slated for 2027. The big question is whether more will be shown from Naughty Dog's next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is supposedly targeting a 2027 release date.
On the third-party front, EA's Iron Man could get its official premiere in the presentation, considering an early version of the trailer leaked last week. In response to the leak, EA tweeted: 'Well, that didn't go as planned. But now you know, and we've got a lot more to show you. See you when we're ready.'
Context and expectations
The last major State Of Play took place in June, featuring reveals for God Of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, and Stuntman: Hollywood. Laufey is due out on February 16, and that is the only other Sony published game with a firm release date.
It remains relatively unlikely that Sony will discuss new games in September, as they typically focus on titles available at Christmas or soon after. Beyond Until Dawn 2, the only major title thought to be relatively close to release is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which lacks a release year. Sony has other titles in development, including the recently reconfigured Horizon Hunters Gathering, but a September State Of Play is probably not the most obvious time to announce them.
