Damaged (2024), a chilling action thriller filmed in Edinburgh and starring Hollywood icon Samuel L. Jackson, is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Film fans have praised the movie, calling it 'worth the watch'.
Plot and Cast
Set in the Scottish Capital, the film sees Jackson play a seasoned Chicago police detective who is called to the city to investigate a killing spree when a sadistic murderer surfaces in Scotland. In a chilling twist, the crimes follow the same horrific pattern from five years earlier, with many film fans drawing plot comparisons to the iconic 1995 film Se7en.
Jackson investigates the crimes alongside local DI Glen Boyd, played by Scots actor Gianni Capaldi. His former partner DI Walker Bravo, portrayed by French actor Vincent Cassel, also plays a leading role. In the shocking thriller, the two detectives with tortured pasts must try to stop the merciless serial killer before he kills his next victim.
Filming Locations in Scotland
Damaged was filmed in Scotland, with many recognisable locations shown throughout the movie. Filming destinations included Bathgate and Livingston, with a local boozer called The Tower Bar being used for shots. At the time, Jackson was also seen at Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston, when he was shooting scenes at a nearby church, before the production team moved to the Tony Macaroni stadium.
During his visit to Scotland, locals will remember how he also stopped by Glasgow to enjoy a night at SWG3's Bongo's Bingo while taking a break from filming.
Fan Reactions
While Damaged received its fair share of criticism online, there were still plenty of film fans who enjoyed it. One wrote: "Samuel L Jackson is a great actor. This movie was really good." Another praised the filming location, adding: "The film’s main strength is in its great Scotland location shots."
A third penned: "Good action film. Good mystery." Someone else wrote: "Worth the watch! Not entirely reminiscent of Terry McDonoughs directing capabilities in someway, it felt almost like he didn't have much creative control over this project. Either way, I really enjoyed it." A fifth chimed in: "I thought the movie rocked."
