Newcastle city centre's Revolucion de Cuba bar hosted its final event on Saturday, with crowds packing the venue for a 'one last party' before the doors shut permanently. The rooftop celebration also marked the end of an era for the Geordie events brand Platform47, which has hosted events at the Cloth Market venue for the past seven years.
A seven-year run comes to an end
The Newcastle branch, which opened in 2018 on the site of the former Destiny nightclub, has followed other Revolucion de Cuba venues across the country that have closed in recent months. An announcement about its future was made on Wednesday, revealing that the site will be replaced by Barbara's Bier Haus, an apres ski themed bar expected to open by Christmas.
Staff addressed the closure on social media, urging people to visit before the closing date on Saturday, September 26. Given the popularity of their events over the years, it was fitting that Platform47 had the honour of seeing things off in style, with many people heading to the rooftop for one last epic party in their current home.
Farewell and what's next
A video shared on Platform47's social media showed the atmosphere at the event, with people drinking and dancing as anthems played from the decks. Above the video, Platform47 wrote: 'THANKS FOR 7 AMAZING YEARS. Yesterday was the perfect way to close the curtain on our time at @decubanewcastle.'
Following the closure of Revolucion de Cuba, Platform47's next event will be a Halloween special at Pitcher & Piano on the Quayside, after they have headed to Ibiza to host a party at the O Beach club.
