Project Zomboid Build 42 Update Out Now on Steam

The highly rated survival game Project Zomboid has received its biggest update yet, as Build 42 makes its debut on PC. The update was released on July 29, 2026, and introduces a ton of new features alongside various quality-of-life improvements.

Map and Environmental Overhaul

The update features a "heavily evolved Knox County," which has been expanded with new and reworked areas that feel more lived in and natural. Developer Indie Stone has also expanded the crafting and building systems, and added new animals and animal husbandry to give players more ways to survive. Players should notice improved lighting, which makes environments feel more natural and dangerous. Environmental storytelling is also improved, while quality-of-life changes affect inventory, interactions, UI, and more.
