Ubisoft's long-awaited Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake may be nearing release, following a domain name update spotted by fans. The game has not been publicly discussed by the developer in over 18 months, but a recent change to a Prince of Persia domain suggests behind-the-scenes activity.
A Reddit user noticed that a Prince of Persia domain was updated on December 10, separate from Ubisoft's current live site. This has fuelled speculation that the company is preparing to publish new information or even launch the game. Previous rumours from Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson indicated a potential January release, possibly as a shadow drop.
The remake was first announced in 2020 but faced multiple delays due to development challenges. Ubisoft last spoke about the project in June 2024, releasing a CG teaser and confirming a 2026 target window. At that time, the company stated the game had entered full production at Ubisoft Montreal, with support from several other studios.
If the January timeline holds, fans had hoped for a gameplay reveal at The Game Awards 2025, but no such trailer appeared. Shadow drops have become more common, with recent examples like The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remaster and Hollow Knight Silksong launching shortly after announcement. Ubisoft may be looking to replicate that strategy with its nostalgic franchises.
