Nintendo has announced a new Direct airing tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4 at 3pm BST, but it will focus on Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, not The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The 20-minute presentation will likely detail the game's gameplay and its four separate storylines, which have only been teased in two brief trailers so far.
What to expect from the Fire Emblem Direct
Fortune's Weave is a distant sequel to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, set in the same world but centered around a gladiatorial arena rather than a school. It is the next Nintendo exclusive, releasing on September 17, and the Direct is expected to provide a proper explanation of its mechanics.
While some fans may see this as intentional trolling, given the seven Directs that preceded the one general showcase this year, Nintendo's strategy has been to air focused Directs for specific games a month before their release. This pattern suggests that Ocarina of Time, slated for a 2026 release with no exact date, may get its own Direct in late October, possibly after Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, which launches October 22.
Zelda and other upcoming Directs
The Ocarina of Time remake is expected to be Nintendo's big Christmas game, likely launching in November. If so, the Zelda Direct could air after the Sports Resort Direct, which might be in mid-September. However, Nintendo's unpredictability means this is not guaranteed, and a general Direct in September could also occur.
Additionally, Nintendo may plan a separate Direct for The Duskbloods, its FromSoftware Switch 2 exclusive, which lacks a release date. A network test for the game is scheduled later this month, so new details could emerge after that, possibly at the end of August.
