The Netflix crime thriller Legends, based on true events from the early 1990s, has been renewed for a second series after drawing widespread audience acclaim. All six episodes of the first series are currently available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
True story of customs investigators
Written and directed by Neil Forsyth, Legends was released in May 2026 and dramatises the work of British customs investigators who infiltrated drug gangs with minimal support and resources from the police force. In the early 1990s, Her Majesty's Customs and Excise was struggling to combat drug trafficking across British borders, prompting the creation of a classified operation.
A select group of customs officers were given completely new identities and instructed to penetrate the most dangerous criminal gangs. The ensemble cast includes Tom Burke, Steve Coogan, Hayley Squires, and Aml Ameen.
Fan reactions and performances
In August 2026, a second series was commissioned. One fan commented on Rotten Tomatoes: "This is actually exceptionally good and feels very different. Many of us know the British crime drime dramas, especially crime dramas on Netflix, look exactly the same."
Another review said: "The characters were fantastic, and watching them individually find their own character was interesting. Everything from the music, the style of dress and the overall attitude brought me back to the late 80s and early 90s."
