Fans of period dramas have a new addition to the genre to enjoy, with a mini-series now streaming on Netflix that has viewers united in praise. Released at the beginning of 2026, the production has prompted debate about how much story can be squeezed into three hour-long episodes.
Some viewers came to it having already read the book with significant excitement, while others were drawn in by the cast and found themselves wanting more instalments.

One fan said on Rotten Tomatoes: "Ahhhhhh SO MUCH FUN! ! I loved it. The artistic cinematography was brilliant, and obviously the acting was spot on. I made my husband bring all three. Wasn't predictable (a teeny bit) but certainly not for the most part, and I love the twists. Love, love, love, love! ! !"

Rising talent Mia McKenna-Bruce takes the lead as Lady Eileen Brent, alongside British acting stalwarts Martin Freeman as Superintendent Battle and Helena Bonham Carter as Lady Caterham. The cast is packed with familiar faces who, through their considerable charm, perfectly embody the quintessentially British atmosphere of the country house setting.
The story follows Lady Eileen Brent as she launches an amateur investigation into the suspicious death of her friend at a rural property, triggered by a prank that went disastrously awry. Her friend was poisoned in a deadly plot involving eight alarm clocks, and as she digs further, her investigation grows ever more intricate. Their findings draw them into the murky realm of secret organisations, obscure scientific formulae and espionage throughout the 1920s.
Creator and Future Prospects
At the helm is Chris Chibnall, acting as both creator and writer of Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, who previously brought the hugely praised BBC drama Broadchurch to our screens. His credits also include work on the revived Doctor Who series.
