Maya Jama is normally the one interviewing popstars, but now she is behind the microphone herself after teaming up with Blossoms for their latest music video. The Love Island host has joined forces with the Stockport quintet, who have four number one albums to their name, in a romantic promotional video for their new single, Meet Me In Love, in which Maya takes lead vocals.
Sadly, it seems singleton Maya, who is inundated with love hearts in the video, is just miming for the visuals and it is frontman Tom Ogden on the microphone. The band connected with Maya at an awards show and she is a massive fan of their tunes.
Behind the Scenes
Singer Tom revealed: "After meeting Maya Jama at the MTV EMAs in Manchester a couple of years ago, we took a chance and sent her a DM to see if she would be interested in being involved. She replied straight away saying she was up for it, and she was an absolute joy to work with."
"Together we created something that feels like a love letter to old Hollywood, 70s disco glamour and classic Top of the Pops performances. It is colourful, romantic and a little bit surreal, which felt like the perfect visual for the song."
The video was directed by Tom himself, who hired a bunch of lookalikes to serenade Maya in the video wearing his clothes.
Video Production
He spilled: "Directed by myself, the video for Meet Me In Love continues the world we first created in the video for Joke About Divorce, with Callum Scott Howells returning as our narrator. We shot it on 16mm film at Chad's Theatre in Stockport, which gave everything the same cinematic feel we loved from the previous video."
The Stockport five-piece paid tribute to Maya after releasing the video: "Huge love to @mayajama for bringing this music video to life. You are a star and now, officially, a pop star."
Maya's Previous Videos
It is not Maya's first pop video. She appeared in Aitch's 2024 video for Gold Mine. She is one of the best connected presenters in the business, having dated Stormzy and hosted at the BRIT Awards or MOBOs. She recently split from Manchester City footballer Ruben Dias and is busy hosting Love Island for another eight weeks.
Blossoms' Upcoming Performances
Blossoms will play the MainStage at Leeds Festival this year on Friday August 28 as special guests. Meet Me In Love was co-produced by DJ Shawn Lee. Blossoms revealed: "Written on the last day of a trip to the Lake District when we thought we had run out of songs, it quickly became one of our favourites!"
"We love this tune so go and play it LOUD!" Meet Me In Love follows the band's previous single Joke About Divorce, which also featured a cameo from It's A Sin actor Callum Scott Howells as their narrator alongside friend-of-the-band Rick Astley, who also sings. Blossoms will also play ahead of Courteeners' headline set at Sheffield's Tramlines Festival in July.
