Nintendo has announced a free update for Mario Kart World, arriving later today, which adds ten new race tracks and two new Knockout Tour routes. The update was revealed during today's Nintendo Direct presentation.
New tracks and Knockout Tour routes
The update introduces ten new circuits, playable from the VS Race menu on the main screen, all inspired by tracks from the original Mario Kart game released in 1992 for the SNES. While the full list was not provided, three tracks were mentioned by name: Choco Island, Vanilla Lake, and Ghost Valley.
In these new tracks, players can drive over Question Mark panels on the floor to collect items, rather than the usual floating boxes found in other courses.
Additionally, two new Knockout Tour routes are included: Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally. Propeller Rally starts in the north of the map and loops clockwise to Bowser's Airship in the west. Turnip Rally begins in the snowy region to the east and heads west through Peach's Castle to the desert temple.
How to download the update
Nintendo states the update will be available to all players free of charge at some point later today, without specifying an exact time. Players are advised to check for updates throughout the afternoon. At the time of writing, the update was not yet available to download.
To check for the update, navigate to Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 dashboard and press the + or - button, then select Software Update if one is available.
