Marco Pierre White is to be reunited with Gordon Ramsay in a new TV series. The celebrity chefs, who are reported to have feuded for years, are teaming up alongside fellow cook Heston Blumenthal for three-part BBC show The Rise of the Rockstar Chef, reports the Mirror.
Background of the rivalry
The three are huge names on the UK culinary scene, but Marco and Gordon's relationship is thought to have seen some tension over the years. The pair clashed after a young Gordon worked for Marco at his celebrated London restaurant Harvey's early in his career, and it was reported that Gordon referred to Marco as "two-faced" in his 2006 autobiography Humble Pie.
However, the pair have since buried the hatchet, with Marco recently praising Gordon's skills in the kitchen when he was interviewed on Louis Theroux's podcast. "He's a great technician, is Gordon," said the star. "A really good technician. His plates are clean and they are always tidy. And they're consistent. And that's what it takes to win three stars in Michelin."
What the series promises
The pair are now set to sit down together with Heston for the new series, with the BBC saying it will be "an extraordinary on-screen reunion that brings the three chefs together for the first time in decades to revisit defining moments and confront the legacy of an era that reshaped British dining".
The series, produced by Studio Ramsay Global and set during the 'Cool Britannia' period, is expected to lift the lid on all the drama, with testimony from the chefs as well as food critics and staff and "those who witnessed the fights, fall-outs and feuds first-hand".
Catherine Catton, head of commissioning for factual entertainment and events, promised viewers would see the "truly extraordinary story behind their fierce rivalry, uncompromising ambition and, at times, truly outrageous antics".
Lisa Edwards, chief creative officer and executive producer at Studio Ramsay Global, added that the programme was "the story of rivalry and the pursuit of perfection where the real heat was not just in the kitchen".
The Rise of the Rockstar Chef will be on BBC One and iPlayer.
