Manchester is set to welcome Mamma Mia! The Party, an immersive dining and theatre experience celebrating the music of ABBA, when it opens at the new Medlock Square entertainment district in 2027. The Manchester venue is expected to be double the size of the London theatre, which seats around 270 people per show.
The experience, co-created by ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus, is not the stage musical nor a version of the 2008 movie. Instead, it weaves the music of the Swedish pop legends into a large, interactive show where guests eat, drink and are encouraged to sing and dance. The venue is a recreation of a Greek taverna and marketplace, complete with olive trees, a spouting dolphin fountain and tables set for dinner.
A four-course Greek feast and ABBA disco
Upon arrival, guests are given a welcome drink and allocated a table on different tiers, with different price points depending on seating. The experience includes a four-course Greek feast of sharing dishes, from mezze with houmous and breads to a Greek salad, spanakopita, braised lamb stifado, slow-cooked beef, garlic roasted baby potatoes, vegetable briam and red wine jus. Dessert includes orange ravani cake, Greek yoghurt with cherry compote, lemon ouzo curd, cream-filled kokakia and baklava.
Between courses, performers move between tables to tell the story and perform ABBA songs. The London production features Greek taverna owner Nikos (Oscar Balmaseda), his British wife Kate (Marianne Benedict), and a love story between Nikos' daughter Konstantina (Inês Fernandez) and island newcomer Adam (AJ Bentley). Former X Factor winner Sam Bailey plays chef Debbie, with star names like Peter Andre having previously been in the cast. After the performance, guests can dance the night away at an ABBA disco, with the entire experience lasting up to four hours.
London success and Manchester expansion
Since opening in August 2019, the London venue has welcomed over 800,000 guests, delivered nearly 2000 performances, and been visited by guests from 110 countries. The Manchester theatre is being built on land next to the new Medlock by Radisson Blu Hotel, with the Etihad Stadium tram stop on the other side.
The arrival of Mamma Mia becomes another piece in the ongoing Medlock Square development, billed as the big new entertainment district for Manchester. Two new restaurants have been unveiled alongside the huge new hotel, while a new museum, PUMA shop, market hall and sky walk will follow before the end of the year. City Group bosses have spoken about making Medlock Square a "365-day a year destination".
Tickets and booking details
Tickets for the Manchester show are not yet on sale, with the venue due to open later in 2027. Further information is set to be announced before Christmas. The London show is now extending booking through to November 2027, with 120,000 tickets going on sale for the new dates this week.
London tickets are priced in tiers and on and off peak, with all tickets including a four-course meal, welcome drink, the show and the ABBA disco. Tier C tickets are from £120 off peak and £154 peak, Tier B is priced from £185 to £218, and Tier A is from £213 to £246. Tables are available in sizes from 2 to 6 people in Tiers B and C, while tables for groups of up to 8 people are available in Tier A. Tickets are available from the Mamma Mia!
