A TV show hailed by fans as the "greatest of all time" is streaming for free in the UK. Lost hit the small screen in 2004 and follows the survivors of a plane crash on a remote, seemingly deserted island. The group set about working together to survive, but it soon becomes clear they may not be alone.
Ensemble Cast and Mystical Island
The drama features a huge ensemble cast, with standouts including Jack Shephard (played by Matthew Fox) and Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly), the group's de-facto leaders. John Locke (Terry O'Quinn), who had been paralysed before the crash but mysteriously finds himself able to walk away from the wreckage, is also a central figure, convinced that the island is a place of deep mystical importance.
The show ran for six seasons, with the finale airing in 2010. It was created by Jeffrey Lieber, Damon Lindelof, and J. J. Abrams.
Fan Praise and Legacy
Lost is still regarded by some fans as the best TV drama ever made, above the likes of seminal HBO series like The Wire and The Sopranos. Viewers have flocked to IMDb to shower the show with praise, with one saying in their opinion it's the "BEST SHOW OF ALL TIME!!" They said while "some shows have ups and downs, Lost has peaks and higher peaks," adding that Lost is "one of the most interesting pieces of fiction I have ever watched and is so meticulously thought out and well planned."
"Every detail in the show is cared for and supposed to be there and everything gets answered one way or another," they added.
Another wrote: "Lost is one of those once in a lifetime shows.. I just started rewatching it again after a long time and it still holds up even to this day. 10/10 stars."
A third added: "Adventure? Check. Survival? Check. Sci-Fi? CHECK. Jaw dropping twists and turns? Check. Brilliant writing, acting, and directing? Check. Despite the above average number of episodes, this show always managed to stay fresh and feel original. That said, it also never strayed off topic or felt like it was losing its original point. I could go forever and ever, but you get the point. This show is a must watch. At least watch the first 4 episodes, from that point you will decide whether this show is for you."
A fourth wrote: "I've just watched this entire show for the first time and am blown away by the effort and talent that went into every single episode. The plot twists and betrayals make you feel as confused and blindsided as the characters themselves which is a magic that TV doesn't really do anymore. Absolutely incredible watch, suspenseful, hilarious and at times, devastating."
The show features distressing scenes and injury detail, so viewer discretion is advised.
All six series of Lost are streaming for free (with ads) on ITVX.
