Kat Slater's world was shattered in Monday's EastEnders episode when she discovered her daughter Zoe dead in her bed. Zoe, who returned to Walford last year after two decades away, sustained a head injury after falling into rubble while fleeing from the men who owned Charlie's cab.
Last conversation and tragic discovery
Zoe had stolen the cab, causing tension with Kat, but the pair made peace in emotional scenes that proved to be their last conversation. Realising Zoe was injured, Kat urged her to get medical help. Zoe promised she would in the morning, but she died before morning came.
Kat found Zoe's body while checking on her in the middle of the night and broke down in tears. As dawn broke, she re-entered the room with a cup of tea, pleading with her daughter to wake up.
Family gathers unaware
Big Mo, Lily Slater, and Jean Slater arrived at the Vic after being kicked out of No. 31, ready to begin a new chapter, unaware of the tragedy. Kat headed to the bathroom to throw up, which her loved ones mistook for a hangover.
Alfie entered Zoe's room to wake her and realised she had died in the night. His devastation alerted the family, and he was forced to break the tragic news to everyone.
Emotional aftermath
When Alfie suggested contacting the authorities, Kat stole his phone and locked herself in the room with Zoe, devastated she never got to say goodbye. Jasmine Fisher broke down in brother Josh Goodwin's arms, while Mo sobbed in the ladies' loos. Jean reminded Mo of how much the family need her, and the two shared a warm hug.
Jean later brought a photo album to Zoe's room, reminiscing about Zoe's life as a Slater and branding her an 'angel'. The police told Kat that Zoe had attempted to make a 999 call, but the operator couldn't make out what was being said, so it was marked as low priority.
Walford gathered in shock as Zoe's body was removed from the Vic and placed into a hearse, with a heartbroken Kat chasing after it, sobbing that she had lost her beloved daughter.
