Jude Law's 'The Order' airs on BBC Two after true-crime acclaim

The Order, a true-crime drama starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult, is airing on BBC Two tonight at 10pm, one year after its release on Prime Video. The film, based on the 1989 nonfiction book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhard, explores a real neo-Nazi group that terrorised America during the 1980s.

Plot and Real-Life Inspiration

In the movie, Law plays FBI agent Terry Husk, who leads an investigation into a series of brutal robberies. The inquiry uncovers a white supremacist organisation led by Bob Mathews, played by Hoult, who harbours ambitions to overthrow the federal government. While certain elements have been dramatised, the narrative remains grounded in actual events.

The Order was an authentic neo-Nazi organisation active between 1983 and 1984. Mirroring the film's portrayal, the group financed its operations through armed robbery proceeds while declaring war against the US government.

Fictional Agent, Real Counterpart

Law's character is fictitious but modelled on several real-life agents, including Wayne Manis, the actual FBI lead who headed the investigation into The Order. Manis, who left the bureau in 1994, still lives locally and has written The Street Agent, which chronicles his career and the case against The Order.

The film initially became available to UK Amazon Prime Video subscribers in February 2025 but will now be shown free of charge on BBC Two.

Critical Reception and Viewing Details

Since its release, the film has been commended by fans for its portrayal of a shocking story. On Rotten Tomatoes, one viewer wrote: "Terrific Screenplay, acting, and directing!" A second added: "Somewhat disturbing that this story is a part of our country’s history, but the script is solid, the acting good, and a very enjoyable watch."
