Harlan Coben is back with yet another gripping Netflix thriller, I Will Find You, and viewers are demanding answers after the show's tragic twist.
I Will Find You Ending Explained
The series revolves around David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son Matthew, a crime he did not commit. When his former sister-in-law Rachel Mills (Britt Lower) shows him a photograph with a boy resembling Matthew in the background, David escapes from prison to investigate.
As the photograph indicates, Matthew is alive. The crucial witness at David's trial, who claimed to see him burying a bloodstained bat, was bribed. The bat was actually buried by David's own father, who believed he had accidentally killed Matthew during a night terror and wanted to protect him.
Why Was Matthew Taken?
David and his wife Cheryl struggled with infertility. Cheryl visited a fertility clinic under Rachel's name to avoid David finding out. Rachel's former boyfriend Hayden Payne (Milo Ventimiglia), obsessed with Rachel, donated sperm when he discovered "Rachel" was seeking a donor. Cheryl was already pregnant with David's child, but Hayden believed Matthew was his. He orchestrated the apparent murder to raise Matthew with his mother, Gertrude Payne (Madeleine Stowe), under the alias Theo.
Who Was Really Killed?
DNA evidence at the crime scene was tampered with. The blood belonged to a terminally ill child named Martin from a Swiss orphanage run by the Payne Foundation. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed it was Martin's body, not Matthew's.
What Happened to Hayden?
Rachel reveals to Hayden that Matthew is not his biological son, and his mother knew. Enraged, Hayden kills his mother and opens fire on David. FBI agent Sarah Greer (Logan Browning) fatally shoots Hayden as he tries to flee with Matthew.
David's conviction is quashed, and Matthew is reunited with his family. Rachel writes a book about their story, Sarah becomes head of the Boston Fugitive Task Force, and Adam turns to private investigation. The series concludes at David's father's funeral, where David vows to always find his way back to his son.
I Will Find You is available to watch on Netflix.
