Hollyoaks is set to serve next week with an appetising dinner party that will see shocking secrets emerge for six key characters. In a special double-episode, Leah Barnes (Charlotte Alex Riley) and Imran Maalik (Ijaz Rana) move into their new home – the newly refurbished houseboat. The famous village location, formerly known as The Love Boat, notably exploded into flames during the Channel 4 soap’s 30th anniversary last October after Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) and Jez Blake’s (Jeremy Sheffield) plane crash-landed into it.
Leah’s Ulterior Motive
But a fancy new refurbishment makes it the place to be next week as Leah and Imran – who returned earlier this month – invite close friends Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith), Caleb Keane (Lewis Walton), Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) and Prince McQueen (Malique Thompson-Dwyer) to an elegant dinner party to celebrate them moving in. Leah, however, has ulterior motives which ultimately come to light after all the hired staff depart. The real reason for her gathering is then revealed.
With plans in motion for her latest business venture, Leah offers her friends quite a proposition. If they confess to a secret they’ve been carrying, they can walk away with £100,000. And it’s all in the name of scientific research, with Leah opening up about her own experience in America, revealing that her ‘fresh start’ didn’t live up to expectations at first – that is, until a university lecturer recognised her potential.
The Digital Confession Booth Study
The pair are now collaborating on research, exploring whether a digital confession booth app could have genuine benefits by allowing users to anonymously unburden themselves of their secrets. As part of said study, Leah’s mates are asked to record a private video confession, which would be securely encrypted and only accessible to them, before taking part in monthly follow-up sessions to assess the emotional impact of unburdening oneself. The aim of the research is to examine whether simply voicing a secret aloud – even if nobody else ever hears it – can improve a person’s emotional wellbeing.
Despite Leah’s assurances that their confessions will remain completely confidential, not everyone is convinced. Vicky, Frankie, Caleb and Prince are conflicted over whether to take part in the experiment, forcing them to confront the truths that they’ve kept hidden – even from themselves. As events unfold, viewers are taken into the minds of the aforementioned six, with dark truths set to emerge and buried secrets resurfacing – and lies spiralling out of control.
Lives Changed Forever
Will any of their lives ever be the same? We’ll just have to wait and see but it’s safe to say that relationships will be pushed to breaking point and loyalties will be tested. Consider us hooked already.
