Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 download codes for PlayStation 5 will come with regional restrictions in certain territories, while Xbox Series X/S codes remain unrestricted.
Regional locks on PS5 codes
According to Rockstar's updated support page, GTA 6 download codes purchased in the UK can only be redeemed through a UK PlayStation account. The same applies to codes from Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and North America. This means UK players cannot buy a code from another country and use it on a UK account.
For Japan, there is an additional restriction: codes expire 170 days after the date they are issued. A code obtained at launch on November 19, 2026, for instance, would need to be redeemed by May 7, 2027, or it will no longer work due to regional regulations.
Xbox codes not region-locked
These restrictions apply only to PlayStation 5 copies. Xbox Series X/S codes are not region-locked and can be purchased from anywhere in the world.
Pre-load and launch details
Rockstar also stated that pre-loading for GTA 6 will begin on November 12, 2026, for those who pre-order. This applies to both digital and physical pre-orders. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
The news comes after Rockstar confirmed that boxed copies of GTA 6 will not include a physical disc, but rather a download code.
