A now-deleted listing on the PEGI rating website has surfaced more details about GTA 6’s content, including frequent drug use, scenes of intercourse and fetishes, and violence against domestic animals.
Given the series’ track record, GTA 6 was expected to be an adult-only type of game even before any gameplay was shown. The question has always been how far it will go, especially given how much more realistic graphics are nowadays.
Drug use as a gameplay mechanic
One of the many gameplay leaks gave away that GTA 6 will feature full frontal nudity and age ratings for the game have confirmed there will be sex scenes, although it’s unclear if such scenes are limited to cut scenes or if you can engage in sexual intercourse as a gameplay mechanic.
More details regarding GTA 6’s content has since been made public over the weekend via a listing on the website for ratings board PEGI. It must’ve been published too early, because it’s since been taken down but not before fans made notes of what it said.
A screenshot of the listing has been shared to Reddit and it refers to ‘strong sexual themes’ as well as ‘scenes of intercourse’ and ‘occasional scenes of fetishes.’ It doesn’t mention any specific fetishes, though, so for all we know PEGI could be referring to rather tame examples to do with feet or something, instead of anything extremely explicit.
What’s more eye-catching is how it describes examples of drug use. Not only is drug use ‘frequent’ in GTA 6, but it’s not just a cut scene thing and you are able to partake in illegal drugs from your inventory as a gameplay mechanic.
The listing even specifies cocaine use, saying it can be carried and ‘snorted directly from [the player’s] hand at any time,’ which will presumably involves some sort of effect, considering GTA 6 is going all in on realism. Maybe it’ll even let you overdose on cocaine and trigger a game over.
Australia’s strict rating
It’s no surprise that Australia’s ratings board, which is incredibly strict about drug usage in media, not just video games, has given GTA 6 the highest score possible in the drugs category: a five.
Across six categories – themes, violence, language, drug use, nudity, and sex – three of them have been given scores of five: violence, drug use, and sex.
The violence one makes sense, as PEGI’s rating mentions that the player can commit acts of violence against anybody else in the game, including civilians, and that it is ‘bloody with a high degree of realism,’ with certain weapons capable of decapitating and dismembering people.
Even ‘domestic animals’ are not safe, although any injuries they exhibit aren’t presented as realistically as the human characters.
Nudity and sex scenes
Australia grading the sex category a five but the nudity category a four is a tad head scratching, but this could indicate that the sex scenes won’t be that explicit.
Nudity may be reserved for the strip clubs (where PEGI mentions you can grope dancers’ breasts and bottoms) and the leaked nudist colony and sex scenes may not depict acts of penetration or show anyone’s private parts.
A sex scene in GTA 5, for example, shows the character Trevor clearly having sex with a woman bent over a kitchen counter, but you only see it happening from behind, with Trevor’s bare bottom on display.
