GTA 6 map regions and 170 animal species revealed

Rockstar has confirmed new details about GTA 6, including dynamic weather systems, 170 species of wildlife, and activities such as mini-golf and zoos, in a preview published by Game Informer.

The game, set in the Florida-inspired fictional state of Leonidas, will feature the largest map in Rockstar's history, reportedly twice as large as GTA 5. The map is divided into six main regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Rockstar's vision for the world

Rockstar co-studio head Aaron Garbut told Game Informer: 'This new world is different. We obsessed about every part – the rooftops, the alleys, the internals and everything in between to the point we hit a critical mass with the numbers of our interiors, and you start to feel the buildings are more real inside and out.'

He added: 'This world is a cohesive whole with the density of content and a hand-crafted quality to every bit.'

Dynamic weather and wildlife

The weather system will include tropical storms and hurricanes, which can be localised to specific areas of the map. During heavy rainfall, water will pour from rooftops and lampposts, and thunder will illuminate the clouds.

GTA 6 will feature 170 species of wildlife, including over 60 bird types, more than 30 land mammals, reptiles, and sea life such as sharks, whales, turtles, and jellyfish. Invasive species like the green iguana, feral cat, cane toad, nine-banded armadillo, and rhesus macaque monkey will also appear.

Activities and release date

Confirmed activities include base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, zoos, air boating, and jet skiing. Rockstar also released 12 new screenshots showing the map's regions and the protagonists Jason and Lucia.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
