GTA 6 codes to expire after 170 days in Japan
GTA 6 codes expire 170 days after purchase in Japan

Rockstar Games has confirmed that physical copies of GTA 6 in Japan will come with a redemption code that expires 170 days after purchase. The expiration date is tied to the game's launch on November 19, 2026. This policy does not apply to UK buyers.

Japan-specific code expiration

According to a blog post on Rockstar's website, "Product codes in Japan will expire 170 days after the issuance date, which is the launch date (November 19, 2026) due to regional regulations." The 170-day expiry appears designed to avoid Japan's Payment Services Act, which requires unused codes to be refundable for half their value after six months. By setting expiry at 170 days (10 days shy of six months), Rockstar sidesteps that requirement.

Region locking details

The blog post also confirms that boxed copies of GTA 6 codes will be region-locked on PlayStation 5. A code purchased in the UK can only be redeemed on a UK account, and similarly for the US and Japan. However, Xbox copies are not region-locked, allowing international redemption.
