Sony has opened pre-orders for God Of War Laufey, giving players the chance to secure exclusive armour ahead of its February 16 release on PlayStation 5.
The game is still getting a physical release before the company abandons discs in 2028. With Marvel's Wolverine now out, Sony has no more PlayStation 5 exclusives for the rest of 2026, though it doesn't need any since GTA 6 is expected to be a massive hit and has already boosted console sales.
Pre-order bonuses and digital deluxe details
Whether pre-ordering God Of War Laufey physically or digitally, players will receive two cosmetic items: a blue Last Wish armour set for protagonist Faye and a Golden Leaves design for gelatinous companion cube Phranque. Pre-orders also include an in-game resource pack, which will presumably include items that let you upgrade Faye and her abilities earlier than intended.
The digital deluxe edition comes with a digital mini art book and soundtrack as well as a Dark Alchemy armour set for Faye. It also includes a Dark Alchemy blade, Dark Alchemy bow scales, and a Dark Alchemy catalyst. These seem to be more than cosmetic, since a PlayStation Blog post mentions that Faye's armour and weapon sets offer 'a range of gameplay perks, stats, and unique looks'. However, what exactly the Dark Alchemy items do isn't explained.
Lastly, the digital deluxe edition has an in-game resource pack too, but it's unclear if this means pre-ordering this edition means you get two of these packs; one from the deluxe edition and one from the pre-order bonus.
Pricing and release date
On the PlayStation Store, the standard edition of God Of War Laufey costs £69.99, while the digital deluxe edition costs £79.99. If you opt to buy the game physically, you can upgrade to the deluxe edition by paying the extra £10 for a digital download.
God Of War Laufey launches for PlayStation 5 on February 16. Billed as an interquel, set during the events of the 2018 God Of War and its sequel, it follows Kratos' late wife Faye after she winds up in the Everywhen, a realm that serves as the afterlife for multiple mythologic gods and creatures.
It's also the first entry in the series not to focus on Kratos, although he'll still somehow be showing up, as evidenced by the initial gameplay reveal and a new screenshot shared to the PlayStation Blog. Said screenshot shows some very Greek looking architecture in the background, which lends credence to theories that characters from the original Greek games will make a reappearance. As a quick reminder, God Of War Laufey will be one of the last PlayStation exclusives to release physically, as Sony plans to cease production of physical games after 2027.
