The Coalition has confirmed that Gears of War E-Day will feature the longest campaign in the series to date. The upcoming prequel, set to launch in late 2026, follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they endure the horrors of Emergence Day. It is the first game in the series built entirely on Unreal Engine 5 and the first mainline entry since Gears 5 in 2019.
Campaign Length Details
In an interview with IGN, creative director Matt Searcy revealed that the campaign will be "longer than any campaign [The Coalition has] built." Players can expect to spend over 14 hours completing the main story. This surpasses previous entries:
- Gears of War: 10.5 hours
- Gears of War 2: 11 hours
- Gears of War 3: 10.5 hours
- Gears of War 4: 9.5 hours
- Gears 5: 13.5 hours
For fans seeking value, the extended playtime is welcome news. The game also includes additional content beyond the campaign, such as a 4v4 multiplayer mode and a 12-player PvE mode called Horde Siege.
Platform Exclusivity
Gears of War E-Day will be an Xbox console exclusive, with no PlayStation 5 version planned. It launches on October 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
