Gears of War: E-Day launches globally on Tuesday, October 6, with all players starting at the same time. The game will be available at 4pm BST, which translates to 8am PDT and 11am EDT for readers in the United States.
Early access and global launch
Early access began five days before the official release, on October 1 at 4pm BST. Those who pre-ordered either the Premium or Collector's edition of the game were able to start playing before the weekend.
The newest chapter in the iconic shooter franchise takes players back to the very beginning, depicting the horrific reality of Emergence Day - the catastrophic event that kicked off the Gears saga.
Story and gameplay details
Legendary heroes Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago will fight off the Locust Horde from under the planet surface in a brutal fight for survival. The game includes a flexible campaign that offers a chance to tackle the story solo or with friends, with two-player split-screen available locally or four players online.
Xbox developers have promised a "grittier, darker" game than other Gears entries, as old foes are reimagined to be more threatening. New creatures and villains will pose a new threat as Marcus and Dom tackle the Locust Horde.
Multiplayer and performance
A mix of fan favourite weapons join purpose-built new items ideal for close quarters combat. The iconic Gears multiplayer experience has been updated to include Horde Siege Mode - an evolution of the classic PvE co-op wave survival feature.
The game will offer 60fps performance across all campaign and multiplayer modes, as new 4v4 maps drop in PvP multiplayer. Gears of War: E-Day will also offer Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming support.
