Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that the upcoming game will allow players to skip mini-games or adjust their difficulty, following feedback from the previous title Rebirth. The final chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is set for release in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
Difficulty Sliders and Skip Buttons
In an interview with Express Online, Hamaguchi explained the team's approach: "I have seen that there were a lot of comments on mini-games after Rebirth came out. I didn't necessarily think that the answer was just to have fewer mini-games in Revelation. The question is how we make them more engaging, more fun, and less frustrating. So that is something that we've been looking at balancing, tweaking and adjusting as well."
He confirmed that some mini-games will have adjustable difficulty levels, while others will offer the option to skip entirely. "What we've done with mini-games in Revelation, for example, is for some of them we've added difficulty levels so that you're able to adjust it. For others, we've also added the ability to say skip the mini game entirely if it's one that doesn't particularly work for you," he said.
Rewards and Playtime Adjustments
Hamaguchi also addressed concerns about rewards tied to mini-games. Unlike in Rebirth, where some rewards provided combat bonuses, Revelation will limit rewards to cosmetic items or those relevant only to the mini-game itself. He noted that in Rebirth, players felt forced to play mini-games they disliked for combat advantages.
Regarding overall game length, Rebirth took about 90 hours for the main story and up to 200 hours for full completion. Hamaguchi said playtime is a consideration but not the primary focus: "One thing that we're being really careful of in Revelation as compared to Rebirth, say in Rebirth you had a forty percent main story, sixty percent side content, we were careful to say it's up to you whether you want to engage with this."
