Fable 2027 Delay Rumours Emerge Amid GTA 6 Launch Concerns
Bad news is brewing for fans of the beloved Fable series, as fresh rumours indicate a potential delay for the upcoming title, possibly pushing its release as far back as 2027. The game, currently slated for a Fall 2026 launch, is reportedly facing internal setbacks that could see it postponed, according to industry insider Jeff Grubb.
Internal Delays and GTA 6 Competition
In a recent video, Grubb revealed that he has heard Fable has been pushed internally, though he clarified this does not automatically mean a 2027 release is confirmed. However, a significant factor complicating the timeline is the anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. Grubb noted that developers are still aiming for a 2026 release but are concerned about competing with GTA 6, which could force Fable into a December slot, making it a prime candidate for a delay into 2027.
"Apparently they're still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of GTA 6," Grubb said. "And so if it's getting delayed beyond the release of GTA 6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027."
Development Challenges at Playground Games
Fable is being developed by Playground Games, the studio renowned for the Forza Horizon series. This marks the first time the studio has tackled a game of this nature, with reports suggesting the project has been in development for up to eight years. The shift from racing games to a fantasy role-playing title presents unique challenges, potentially contributing to the delay rumours.
Earlier this year, Xbox unveiled the first gameplay footage of Fable, showcasing the whimsical world of Albion.
