Microsoft has announced that the Fable reboot will no longer launch in 2026, moving its release to February 2027. The delay is widely seen as an attempt to avoid clashing with Grand Theft Auto 6, which is scheduled for November 19, 2026.
In a statement, Microsoft said the decision was made to give Fable 'the dedicated moment it deserves' amid a packed holiday lineup. However, critics note that many of this year's major titles, including GTA 6, are third-party releases unrelated to Xbox's own portfolio.
The delay deals a blow to Xbox's 25th anniversary plans, which fall on November 15—just days before GTA 6's launch. With Fable pushed back, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day become Xbox's key holiday releases, though neither has a confirmed date.
Fable is being developed by Playground Games, known for the Forza Horizon series. The game is expected to be available on PlayStation 5 from day one, as are Halo and Gears of War.
Microsoft will showcase its upcoming lineup at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, where new details on Fable and other titles are anticipated.
