EA Sports FC 27 is officially released today, but players who bought the Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Plus Editions have been playing for a week already. While the game holds a generally favourable score of 77 on Metacritic, several serious issues are causing concern across the community.
New corner system criticised
The revamped corner system introduces a third step: after setting up the corner and aiming, players take control of attackers in the box, moving them into position while avoiding defenders. Many find this too complex. Reddit user Tegsmo asked, 'Anyone else just hate the new corners? Like seriously, why did they feel the need to change it? It's awful now. Maybe it's just me but I can't ever control where I need my players to be since you can't see where the ball is going.' Stamphasadeathwish added, 'Corners are terrible. The two stage thing could work if there were some kind of indicator for where to expect the ball, but scoring headers requires too much precision for guesswork.' A practice mode exists in the Learn to Play section, but EA is unlikely to remove the feature entirely.
Glitches and through balls
Some glitches are humorous, like a substitute appearing in a black sports bra, a goalkeeper stuck to the post after a freekick, or a player tangled in the net to act as a makeshift keeper in 2v2 street mode. However, these can be replicated online and interfere with gameplay. Through balls are also contentious: some players find them too effective, while others argue they are manual and strong in high divisions. As one player noted, 'They're not nerfed they're just manual, they're actually strong as f*** and it's the new meta in high divs/pro play, but since they're manual you have to put the correct power and direction on them.'
Player switching issues
Player switching is another sore point. Reddit user blutgraetsche said, 'I've conceded nine goals in squad battles so far and seven were from me not being able to switch players and running around like a headless chicken with the wrong player.' Others suggest adjusting sensitivity settings, as the menu offers many sliders. Hopefully, EA is monitoring these issues and will address them over the coming year.
