Danny Dyer's 'divisive' comedy film Marching Powder has just been added to Netflix, marking a reunion between the former EastEnders actor and The Football Factory's director Nick Love.
The film tells the tale of Dyer's lovable football hooligan, as he battles to overcome a drug arrest, save his marriage in six weeks and stop his life from spiralling out of control. It has been a busy year for the actor, who played Mick Carter on the BBC soap, with viewers loving his new series with his daughter Dani Dyer.
A Busy Year for Danny Dyer
Consisting of six episodes, The Dyers' Caravan Park saw the father and daughter working hard to win over sceptical residents and staff, while improving the business and revamping the park to revive the British holiday tradition. Sky One viewers loved seeing the pair's attempts to transform the fortunes of Priory Hill in Leysdown, and turn it into the kind of place Danny loved visiting in the 1980s.
The series was Sky's best original unscripted entertainment launch in five years, and the pair will be returning for a second season. On top of this, Danny was back in the second season of the Disney+ drama Rivals after years of waiting, with fans rooting for his character Freddie Jones to find love with Katherine Parkinson's Lizzie Vereker.
Marching Powder's Plot and Cast
The synopsis reads: “After being arrested for fighting and cocaine possession during a football hooligan brawl, Jack is ordered by the court to go to couples' therapy for six weeks. Unable to keep a job, he lives off of his father-in-law Ron's money under the condition that he watch over Ron's schizophrenic son Kenny Boy. Jack attempts to stay off of drugs and away from hooligan fighting for the sake of his relationship and his young son, while his wife Dani goes back to art school to recover what she sacrificed to be a stay-at-home mother.”
Joining Danny in the film is Snatch's Stephanie Leonidas, The Firm's Calum MacNab, Bridgerton's Bailey Patrick, Father Brown's Lex Shrapnel, RockNRolla's Geoff Bell and comedian Rob Auton.
Fan Reactions and Box Office
Danny's fans took to the cinema in their droves, with it grossing an impressive $4.06 million at the global box office. Critics weren't crazy about the film, scoring it just 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Many fans have tried figuring out just where they land on Marching Powder, taking to the film social media site to give reviews. While some hated it, others were just happy to have a new film with Danny in it.
