Coronation Street star Olivia Frances-Brown has revealed the twisted reasoning behind Jodie Ramsey's campaign of torment against her half-sister Shona Platt, explaining that it is fuelled by a delusional obsession with David and deep-seated resentment over childhood abandonment.
Jodie's Warped Mindset
Olivia, who plays the character, described Jodie's mental state as completely detached from reality. 'It's all about her warped mind,' she said. 'Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness. She's lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs – which obviously isn't reality! She's just completely hooked on that idea now.'
Since her arrival in January, Jodie has been trying to insert herself into Shona's family, targeting her premature baby Harper, stepdaughter Lily, and husband David. She has previously attempted to seduce a drunken David by lying in his bed wearing Shona's nightie, and has since escalated to gaslighting Shona into believing she is an unfit mother.
A Sister's Revenge
But Olivia says the root of Jodie's behaviour lies in her feelings towards Shona, who left her with their unstable father Doug when she was a child. 'She practically worships Shona,' Olivia shared. 'So much so that they've got matching tattoos. But those feelings are mixed with animosity that comes from childhood abandonment.'
She added: 'Jodie idolises Shona so much that she literally wants to step into her shoes, take over her life and know what that feels like. By taking over David, the house, the role with Harper – she genuinely wants to know how it feels to be Shona. She loves her sister, but she wishes Shona had treated her differently throughout her life. There's a deep need to get her own back and have some sort of revenge.'
Chaos and a Gunshot
Upcoming episodes will see the feud between the sisters reach breaking point, with accusations and secrets leading to a gun being drawn and a gunshot ringing out. As the dust settles, one person lies stricken, leaving viewers to wonder who takes the bullet.
Olivia hinted that Jodie has completely lost control. 'When pushed, you just don't know what she's capable of. She has a lot of dark secrets, she's seen a lot and she has a genuinely sinister side to her. She's driven herself completely crazy with this huge fantasy. It's not rooted in reality anymore, she's completely lost her marbles.'
