Coronation Street: Sam's secret debt shocks Nick

Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) left Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) horrified in Coronation Street tonight as he revealed a major secret, and it had nothing to do with Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley).

Last week, Sam snuck into the Rovers Return pub to collect his phone. He was spotted by Eva, who was making her way up the stairs of the cellar. In a panic, Sam shoved Eva, causing her to tumble over and smack her head. For a few days, Sam failed to tell anyone that he was responsible for putting Eva in hospital, which meant Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) found himself being wrongly accused.

Eva confronts Sam

His overwhelming guilt led him to the hospital to see Eva, but she quickly worked out that Sam pushed her when she noticed how distressed he looked. Eva updated Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) in tonight’s episode, who then told Nick. Fortunately, Eva recognised that Sam’s been through a lot this year and decided against telling the police.

A while later, in the Bistro, Sam broke down in front of Nick, Toyah and Leanne. He alluded to doing something awful, and then revealed that he’s been buying crypto in his dad’s name.

Nick’s financial shock

Sam hadn’t just lost his dad a few quid, either. He shared that he had taken out a credit card pretending to be Nick and has spent over £6,000. How on earth will Nick deal with paying this money back?

Sharing her reaction to learning about Sam pushing Eva, star Catherine Tyldesley said: ‘I was really surprised initially, but because of where Sam is at and because of his storyline, once I’d read the script, I was like, “Ah, okay, this makes a lot more sense.” Eva takes mental health very seriously, after what happened with Aidan, and that that was the first time she’d come across a situation like that, and the first time that suicide had affected her. And since then, I think it’s really opened her eyes up to how important mental health is.

‘It’s a difficult juggle for her because she’s got a family to protect. She doesn’t want to feel scared, but at the same time she feels deeply sorry for Sam, and she just wants him to get better. So it’s finding that balance that trust again, I suppose.’
